Moving into new property

Im new to the forum, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before. We are moving into a property that is with a company that supplies the electricity only, and then the property has oil heating.

When can i check for the cheapest rate by comparing other companies? Do I wait until we have connected and registered with the current provider? the reason Im asking is that we obviously dont have usage details, as we dont live there yet. Im just worried that if we register with the current company and decide to go with another (cheaper) supplier, wont we have to pay an exit fee?

Advice on oil heating will also be appreciated.

Thank you

You can check any time, and if you do you will see the options available if you don't know your anticipated annual consumption in kWh.

However, you do need to register with the existing supplier first before applying to switch, and you shouldn't register until the first day of your TA (or date of completion if buying)

You will only incur early exit fees if you choose a tariff that has early exit fees and you switch before the end of the term.

Any qusetion you have over oil heating would be better posted on the other board, here:
