This code relates to there being a previous major malfunction of the car as the number 1 is the highest level. It may have been fixed as this requires a registered m.o.t station to stamp the form which informs if problems have been fixed.

Both my cars say this and I have owned them from new. Neither has had any type of malfunction, major or otherwise.

No it isn't - its to do with the EU directive on new cars and their extensive tests that are made to ensure the car has passed all safety aspects etc. My 2004 has M1, but my 2000 has nothing because at that time it wasn't subject to the tests.

Depending on when your car was registered will depend on if it shows as either blank or Null, or for newer cars M1.

It means that according to DVLA the tax expired on 1 April 2011 & it is a petrol engine.

Are you sure you put the registration number in correctly?

yes im sure, i called the dvla and they said it could be a registration error. one of the vehicle check website mentioned on here said its a tdci petrol, which you can get, so something somewhere is recorded wrong. the dvla said as long as all other car checks are fine, its not written off, stolen etc, then send the log book to them once i've purchased it and they can change it to diesel.

The date of Liability - is the 1st day of new road fund tax due and you are liable for payment due of new tax or non-taxation/not sorn as the registered keeper.

Not when MOT is due as mentioned prior.
