Exactly, people seem to expect the police to be able to instantly take action on their word alone. Unless you have previously given information to the police that has been corroborated and turned out to be accurate the information you submit will have a fairly low intelligence grading and certainly won't be enough for them to take action on its own - they will need reports from more than one person, corroborating evidence or evidence from a trusted and proven source before they can take much action.
Although it may feel like a long time to you, in terms of a police investigation into a serious matter 6 weeks is the blink of an eye - they have to do things by the book or risk having a case thrown out and it all takes time.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

In the case of my friends it went on for about three years. And then the dealers only left because they were thrown out by the housing association despite many complaints to the police.0 -
The best course of action here would definitely be to get the swine kicked out of the apartment complex. I wonder if he has any police record for dealing? That and a recorded incident of him being threateneing could be a quick ticket to his eviction0

the police probably do not have a drugs squad, that way they do not have to arrest the dealers, therefore drugs crimes are falling
