is my employer in the wrong?

With my job I get a company car which I declare and use privately and my private mileage is calculated and then I pay my private fuel. The problem is my company are saying instead of them taking it from my wage I HAVE to set a direct debit up for it to be taken a few days after. For the last two months they have taken too much and messed my bank up, am I within my rights to say I dont want to set one up and have the money taken straight from my wage? M y other issue is my payslip, on my basic pay lunch is taken from it but then added back on in the tax section which seems odd, also in he pay section a supplement is added which I have no clue of what it is. Any help will be much appreciated as I am completely baffled

Are you a member of your union? Ask your rep for advice and support.0

You are not obliged to give a DD, but your employer is not obliged in the long run to give you private use.You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

Yes you can but it may rock the boat, sticking up for your rights does tend to do this
Maybe suggest an alternative , tell them you will set up a standing order, the difference is you are in charge, the same amount is sent to them instead of them taking it, they have no control, the amount can be changed it needed.
If that fails how about opening a new account just for the fuel, not perfect not it will keep them happy.
As said telling them to go !!!! will not go down well most likely, try it if you really want but be ready to be labeled a trouble maker.0 -
Ok thanks for the replies the reason I dont want the DD is because not only do they now owe me £60 from errors which they forgot to repay this month but they set a new DD up every month I only ever set up one origional one two years ago but on my bank account there are 24 different DD's which seems ridiculous also does anyone understand the lunch subsidy thing??0

The lunch thing just sounds like the way they account for your lunch expenses to minimise tax but again your union should be able to advise. Talk to your rep or call the national helpline for advice.0 -

every time they change the amount it is a new DD so if you look 23 will be inactive and the lastest one will be active, you can delete all the inactive ones if you wish but they are doing no harm, just taking up space on the screen.
I doubt anyone can tell you about your works "lunch subsidy thing" we don't even know where you work, have you tried asking work for the information0 -
There is no union in my company basically on my pay slip there is the basic pay under that 93 pounds are deducted then on the tax side all usual tax is deducted then my expenses added and then the lunch subsidy added back on. There is not really anyone to ask in the company although its a large company I dont go to an office as such I go from home to sites and the management are very cagey when I ever question anything. Thanks everyone for the help0

There will be a union that represents workers in your industry.
What line of work are you in?
Why not become a steward and help your colleagues with issues like this?0 -
