If you hit them with a load of spurious charges your customers might well dry up fairly quickly...
Yeah, that may well be the case. Merely demonstrating that there is a notion out there that local pickup doesnt cost the seller anything, whereas it does.0

By starting the bidding at the minimum amount you will accept.
Merely pointing out that if you sell an item for say £20, then the buyer emails to say oh i will be near your town on tuesday week can i pick it up between 17:00 and 18:00? Then, as a good seller, you will probably do your best to accomodate that BUT you will still incur the above costs / hassle that i have listed above, that the buyer wont consider.
I have 800+ feedback, i am a powerseller, we dispose of surplus stock etc on ebay, we dont charge for pickup, but there are costs involved for pickup for companies - otherwise we could all nip in to amazons nearest depot on our way home some night and pick up that book we bought off them for £3.99.0

but it *might* stop people trying to pick items up from you. We post off 99% of the items we sell so i couldnt see it affecting sales. We had a guy bought a s/h printer for £17, from england (we're in n.ireland)- we were asking £10 for postage - RRP on the printer about £60 - so the guy emails, says his aunt lives 30 miles from us, he wants to get her to pick it up and bring it over as luggage next time she visits him. Three weeks later, his aunt turns up (after not turning on on three pre arranged occasions) with a cheque from him - personally i could live without that buyer.0

and thats the same for all businesses then is it?
Selling the odd item - if someone wants a pickup fine. Selling lots of items and people want pickup, pain in the rectum0

If collections bother you that much, then simply state on your auctions that collection is not possible. The money, Dave...0
