Would Broadband still work on an incoming only line?
I don't think BT do an incoming calls only tariff any more. You can have an incoming only line in a premises normally because the line has been ceased by the previous occupier and they have done the minimum to prevent costs on the line. However in that situation they would probably refuse to jumper that line across to the ADSL kit.

I believe that basic requirement for ADSL is still a fully working telephone line. Why should they carry nyour ADSL signal for nothing?

You can ask them to bar outgoing calls for about £3 per month.

I have a work mobile which is my primary number. I only have a land line for broadband, never gets used as a phone. the only way round getting charged is to remove caller ID (which is a free service) unless you don't make calls. this can be removed from within your bt control panel.

If you remove the caller ID from your BT control panel, won't you be changing the terms of your 12 month contract and get charged for cessation of the original agreement? :(

Two options available to you here as it's in their terms and conditions; get rid of the call feature(s), or make the calls.

But turn it into a game:

If you get annoying calls on your mobile, make a note of their number then call them back on your landline (after 7pm when it's free).

Ring random people from in the phone book, but someone you're liable to get an automated answer from, such as insurance companies, supermarket, or how about BT itself (but not their 0800 numbers).

So are we definitely agreed that the required 2 monthly calls can be free ones after 7pm - and they do not have to be chargeable daytime ones, please?
  • Having once fallen into this BT trap myself some time ago, I make sure I qualify for the free caller display by ringing my doctors prescription renewal line on the 1st of every month either after 7pm or at the weekend, when the line is shutdown and connected to a recorded announcement. After a couple of months it becomes second nature and becomes a habit.

I do not use my landline much but still have to do the two calls a month. So I ring one number whenever I need to not worrying about the costs as the calls are short.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

    call 0800 number x2, simples
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I don't think 0800 count for this purpose, as they don't appear on your bill.

I have never heard of the two calls/month thing. I do press 1471 .... I probably do make two free calls/month though.

Nobody reads the legals because it's unfathomable....
