BT Charges for not using my phone

I have just been charged £4 for not making at least two calls on my home phone this month. I only rarely use my home phone, like most people my mobile is my communication method of choice.

How can you be charged for not using something you pay to use? Doesn't make sense. Still only a few more months before I can leave them for good. This can't be good for their future and certainly isn't good for my bank balance. Is it worth complaining?

I have caller display, it is free as long as I make 2 chargeable calls per month. If I don't make 2 calls then I get charged around £4 for the caller display.

As above, for Caller ID, 1471 or 1571 it's been in the T&C's for years.
You simply need to make two calls per month, these can be within your allowance, not chargeable.

It's the game they play. You stick by the rules and you save money. You forget, and you pay up.

They've always been clear on this fact so as it has never been concealed, you really have not complaint.

I have a work mobile which is my primary number. I only have a land line for broadband, never gets used as a phone. the only way round getting charged is to remove caller ID (which is a free service) unless you don't make calls. this can be removed from within your bt control panel.

While agreeing with you, it's the first time I've seen 'clear' mentioned in a BT context. :rotfl: BT are notoriously not clear and manage to conceal information in the smallest of fonts so that they remain illegible (or ignored) to many.

Checking BT terms and conditions is a pain for me, so I ignore BT offers. Am I missing out on anything? Possibly, but I survive somehow.

I sympathise with the OP. If s/he is not using their BT line much, they should cancel the optional services. FWIW, my reason for staying with BT for the time being is for broadband access. We have Caller ID so I try to make 2 BT calls a month.

I thought the minimum 2 calls had to be chargeable calls but am ready to be corrected on this.

Would Broadband still work on an incoming only line?

£2 just collected by direct debit, so it looks as though I failed to make the two calls. :(

But you'd still have to pay line rental if outgoing calls were barred.
