    A lot of the differences between American and British English is down to the battle between Anglo/Saxon and Norman French. American English uses more Anglo Saxon constructs, British English more Norman French.

    Some example:

    Anglo/Saxon (er ending), Norman (re ending). e.g. Center/center

    * "Programme" is Norman French based, as you have the silent "me" ending, you wouldn't have silent letters in Anglo/Saxon, hence "programm" in Anglo/Saxon.
    * Aubergine vs. Eggplant (eierplanten)

    I could go on, but I won't.

    The letter Z is of course the complete opposite, "zed" is Anglo/Saxon, not "zee".

    filehippo is good.

    I've only been messing about with computers less than 2 years but in the early days someone pointed me in the direction of this

    http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm

    It must be OK as I see quite a bit of it gets mentioned on MSE but I've never seen the site mentioned.
    (Someone will probably correct me!)
    Move along, nothing to see.

    Another excellent site, Spud. It is amazing how much people spend on stuff which is otherwise freely available from sites like this. Mind you, I did so myself years ago. My first purchase was Norton a/v, which proved to be a huge disappointment. The worst part was the almost total lack of after-sales support. Things might have improved since then, I don't know. Other than my OS, most of the software that I use is free these days.
