A lot of the differences between American and British English is down to the battle between Anglo/Saxon and Norman French. American English uses more Anglo Saxon constructs, British English more Norman French.
Some example:
Anglo/Saxon (er ending), Norman (re ending). e.g. Center/center
* "Programme" is Norman French based, as you have the silent "me" ending, you wouldn't have silent letters in Anglo/Saxon, hence "programm" in Anglo/Saxon.
* Aubergine vs. Eggplant (eierplanten)
I could go on, but I won't.
The letter Z is of course the complete opposite, "zed" is Anglo/Saxon, not "zee"."Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect." - Mark Twain0 -
Getting back on to the original topic...another good website to have a look at is https://www.filehippo.com - just ignore the stuff in banners down the side.
Just had a look. Great site. thanks.0 -
filehippo is good.
I've only been messing about with computers less than 2 years but in the early days someone pointed me in the direction of this
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best_46_free_utilities.htm
It must be OK as I see quite a bit of it gets mentioned on MSE but I've never seen the site mentioned.
(Someone will probably correct me!)Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Another excellent site, Spud. It is amazing how much people spend on stuff which is otherwise freely available from sites like this. Mind you, I did so myself years ago. My first purchase was Norton a/v, which proved to be a huge disappointment. The worst part was the almost total lack of after-sales support. Things might have improved since then, I don't know. Other than my OS, most of the software that I use is free these days.0
