It is not much good asking for other's experiences with Northumbrian Water as it depends on the Rateable Value(RV) they had on their property and other factors.

You can look up the metered and unmetered charges on the company's website. http://www.nwl.co.uk/business/tariffs-and-charges.aspx

For two people on average you would use around 110 cubic metres a year.

Generally speaking two people would have lower bills on a meter.

If it doesn't work out cheaper, you can revert back to your current charging system with 12 months.

It is also possible in a flat that they might not be able to fit a meter. If so you will be offered an assessed charge.

I'm with northumbrian water. I live on my own in a 1 bed flat. But my OH is regularly round and obviously uses the loo, he also has showers here at times. My bills before I had a meter were £37 a month. The first year with a meter these went down to £20 a month - they set these at what they think you'll use. This year, they are slashing them to £9.44 as I have built up a credit. So next year I'm expecting them to rise again to about £15.

It all depends on how much water you use. If you go on their website it has a calculator- you put in things like how many showers/baths/times flush the loo etc and it estimates your usage.

You can try a water meter for a year to see if it works out cheaper, if it doesn't you can revert back to non metered charges.

I've been pleased with a meter personally.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
