Huawei Ascend Y300
Hi,
My current phone has a cracked screen, and am looking for a new phone to replace it.
I am currently looking at the Huawei Ascend Y300
Carephone Warehouse has Huawei Ascend Y300 on PAYG for £69.95 (plus £10 top up). Based on a quick look on mobile phone developers forums, you can unlock and root this phone yourself (ie at no cost). I have done this before with several other phones.
CPW also do this as a PAYG upgrade for £59.95. The website seems to indicate that you just need an active Orange PAYG sim that you topped up in the last 6 months.
"In order to be eligible for an upgrade you must have joined Orange 6 months ago or 6 months must have passed since your last upgrade. You must also have topped up within the last 6 months."

it kept refusing my orange PAYG sim (that I use occasionally for Orange Weds). I phoned them up and was told that you have to top up £10 every month to get the upgrade price.
So I'm looking at the £69.95 price (plus £10 topup which I can use for Orange Weds or else donate to charity).
Is the phone a good deal at this price or are there better PAYG deals on this phone or should I be looking at other phones. I want a nice budget (less than £100) android preferably with a 4" screen that can be user unlocked and rooted.

Probably the best option.
Alternatively i'd recommend the Orange San Diego which is still £100 in store i think. Unless it's been discontinued now?
It's a far better phone. Although i'm not sure about unlocking and rooting.0 -
Go for the Y300 and don't forget the £6 back from Quidco if you get the Orange deal.
Long thread on UKHOTDEALS all about it.0 -
I don't think you'll find a better Android phone at that price. The only other recommendation I'd have would be a refurb Nokia Lumia 620 for £109.99 (including £10 credit) from Virgin, but that's Windows of course.0

It certainly was a great price but I'd be surprised if there are any left now. Plus apparently the phone can only now be unlocked (by Orange and at a cost) after 6 months on the Orange network, which sort of limits it appeal for many, i guess. although i suppose it will also accept a VM and/or EE SIM?0 -
If you order Y300 on-line at the CPW they are out of stock not in to the 8th
i have one on order and waiting.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.
