Do I need a Room Stat for central heating?

I have had new rads and pipework fitted to central heating system but I havent had a new boiler fitted. I am being told that I have to have a room stat fitted, despite having TRVs on all rads. Is this right? Can the boiler still be serviced and commissioned without the room stat?

The need to have a room stat is open to debate - some claim it's a building regs issue and others not. The mechanics of installing and commissioning a new boiler however are unaffected by this, the wiring system gets slightly modified.

there is no debate, you must provide a boiler interlock & fitting a room stat is the easiest & cheapest way of doing it, trv's are not a subtitute
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Its in the boiler manufacturers instructions - but also the most important energy saving part of your central heating controls!

Without this your boiler is essentially running 24/7 when you switch it on regardless whether the TRV's are on or off . . .
I was going to put the name of my plumbing business here so you know what I do should I give out any advice plumbing wise - however apparently I cant do that - go figure!!!!!

It will save you money having a stat fitted. Its no big deal as you can get a wireless one and put it anywhere with minimal disruption.

Why would you _not_ want a room stat? It will give you more control over the heating and save money.

Having re-read the original post - aren't I right in thinking you're not supposed to have TRVs on all the radiators? I've always understood there should be one radiator without one.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

The radiator nearest the room thermostat should not have a TRV installed.

Sorry, I didnt say the bathroom doesnt have a TRV.
In response to being asked why I wouldnt want a room stat, Ive never had one, always used TRVs, the boiler control and timer which has always seemed to suffice in terms of adequate heat and reasonable bills.

There are some savings to be had with installing a room thermostat however, siting of it will be important.

Hence, choosing a wireless one may be a better option for you depending on where you site it.

If the bathroom radiator is the only one without a TRV, you will need to find the best location for the room thermostat and remove the TRV from the radiator in that room.

I have a wireless one and it works really well. in addition some of my upstairs rooms have individual radiator thermostats.
