Lloyds refusing to do BACs payment?

Lloyds and Halifax charge £30 to make an electronic transfer in branch.
Pretty poor if you ask me.
Banks are a business not a charity and are solely put on this earth to make money. The simple reason why FP is available online/telephone only is because they want you to do the work and admin, any mistakes are your fault and not the banks. - hence the £30 fee
Each bank offers different services and has different policies, if all banks were the same there would be no competition, in fact this forum site would be pretty boring as nobody would have anything to moan about.
It's up to the bank what it chooses to do, just like it's up to your local shop to refuse £50 notes or Scottish notes. Or Aldi to refuse credit cards. Or some car garages to refuse payment in cash.
If you don't like it take your business elsewhere that would be my advice and until the business sees a reduction in customer numbers due to a trend then it won't change its policy.
Truth is with the OPs query the bank probably could process it, often it is down to how the staff colleague explains how it is possible that it can be done that appeases the customer.0 -
Lloyds do not do BACS payments over the counter.
Alternative methods of payments are available for a fee or free(As has been discussed).
OP why did you not pay on father's behalf and get repaid later?
Perhaps you should amend the title of this thread to 'Cannot' from 'Refused'
Whether they should be able to do so is for another debate/thread?0 -

BOS did a Faster Payment from my Halifax account free of charge in branch but did offer me CHAPS initially; I would gather that Halifax & Lloyds have the same ability.Lloyds and Halifax charge £30 to make an electronic transfer in branch.

They probably just waived the fee for the CHAPs. Halifax for certain CANNOT do faster payments in branch. Only CHAPs, which if done before 2.45pm will reach the persons account the same day. Costs £25, not £30.''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -
I don't believe that they charge £30 for FP in branches. If they did, this would be in their Fees and Charges that isn't the case.
I think it was either some misunderstanding or some incompetent idiot in the branch.0 -
It was listed as a Faster Payment (FPO) on my statement.HoneyAndLemon wrote: »They probably just waived the fee for the CHAPs. Halifax for certain CANNOT do faster payments in branch. The only way for Lloyds TSB staff in branches to do external transfers is CHAPS - hence the £30 charge. They have never been able to BACS transfers in branch nor since it was introduced, Faster Payments.
The advice the branch gave was spot on, the only other thing they could have managed would be to ring the insurance company and pay by debit card.0
