A standard WRX from the bugeye shape (2001?) onwards will not det on 95 fuel. It will run slightly less power but it will run fine. As Nev said, you couldn't get a 40k WRX so it would be a STi minimum and then possibly a special edition.
If you've tuned the car at all and haven't had it properly mapped for fuel and you are thrashing the nuts off it on a race track then you are asking for it to go pop!
It might possibly have been an STi, I can't be 100% certain. It was a black 5dr with a Cosworth badge on the back. In any event my point stands that not all Subarus run on 95RON.0 -

Then it isn't a Subaru engine, it's a Cosworth one so the point doesn't really stand. That's like saying your Ferrari blew up on 95 and therefore no Fiats should use it.
"Oddly, the Cosworth Impreza doesn’t quite blow you away where you expect it to: in the engine department. That’s not for want of effort on Cosworth’s part. It has completely stripped Subaru’s aluminium 2.5-litre flat four in the process of making this engine, and fitted new pistons, bearings, con rods, gaskets, head studs, and a completely upgraded turbocharger, intake system and exhaust. Such is the company's devotion to this car’s powerplant, Cosworth has even taken the oil pump to bits to ensure that it’s working efficiently."What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

It's a Subaru. What was it you said earlier, don't be afraid to admit you're wrong?
No i've quite clearly shown you that the engine was totally rebuilt by Cosworth. That's not Subaru at all.
The engine has been dramatically changed and anyone who buys a car like that, a 400bhp turbo which has been specifically tuned and tries to run it on the cheap is asking for it to go pop.
Given just 75 were made for the UK market more care should have been taken care of it. Again, you are comparing a handbuilt exotic engine with the mass produced run of the mill systems.
Stop clutching at straws! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

It's a Subaru. If I wanted to buy one I'd go to Subaru, not Ford, and ask for a Subaru. In the same way as my mate has a TVR 350 and has never been tempted to call it a Rover. Just like dozens of marques are fitted with engines built by other manufacturers without people being in the least bit confused about what they are.The engine has been dramatically changed and anyone who buys a car like that, a 400bhp turbo which has been specifically tuned and tries to run it on the cheap is asking for it to go pop.
So your earlier statement that all Subarus will run fine on 95 RON should really include the suffix, "except those that don't." Which doesn't conflict in any way with my original post where I simply cited two examples of this.0 -

Ford don't own Cosworth. They are a private firm.So your earlier statement that all Subarus will run fine on 95 RON should really include the suffix, "except those that don't." Which doesn't conflict in any way with my original post where I simply cited two examples of this.
I never said all. For example I'm pretty sure putting 98 RON petrol in a diesel Forester will not be good for it.
Since you are clearly on a wind up and are not even discussing the issue the OP brought up I shall not be replying to any more of your messages on this thread. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

I guess you just spelled 'some' wrong.Since you are clearly on a wind up and are not even discussing the issue the OP brought up I shall not be replying to any more of your messages on this thread.
I already discussed it. Nothing that I've said so far has been incorrect aside from not being sure the exact spec of my neighbour's car. Some Subarus need 98+RON. Fact.0 -
I know I said I wouldn't but this really is it.
Quotation fail:

And it's clear that I really didn't say all.

With Tesco diesel I can do 410-420 miles on a tank, Shell ordinary diesel I can do 420-430 miles on a tank, and Shell Nitro+ (or whatever the new stuff is called) I get 450-480 miles on a tank. Speaks for itself as far as I am concerned. Interesting that not everyone finds similar results.
I didn't realise Shell had introduced a new V-Power diesel.
Here's a Fifth Gear performance test for anyone interested (including the old V-Power):
