Car problems after filling up!

Hi, looking for some advice, filled my car up last night before going to work, after a few mintues my engine warning light came on and the car started to lose power it wouldnt seem to get past 30mph.
So today I drained the petrol tank, and put new petrol in, the car seems to run better until the engine is warm then it will loose power again, I have ordered a new fuel filter which I will be able to fit tomorrow should that not solve the problem what do people think it may be? also when the vehicle starts to loose power there seems to be a rattling sound coming from under the car.
The car was running perfect before filling her up, the problem seemed to come afterwards also the engine light will start flashing now and then aswell. Any advice will be appreciated:)

Why Don't you post after you have fitted the filter if you still have a problem ?You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

I wont be on here tomorrow, hence why I am asking now, so if anybody has any ideas I can look into it whilst I am working on the vehicle0

Do you think you actally mis-fuelled the car (Diesel/petrol)?
I have heard of incorrect fuel breaking down seals within fuel pumps which in turn start breaking up.
There is a post on a BMW Forum where the fuel pump disentegrated and wrote off an engine to the tune of £7k (as an extreme example).0 -
As far as I know at the minute instead of getting a tank full of petrol I got a tank full of water, as there was quite a considerable amount of water in the petrol tank once I drained it people have suggested driving and burning the water off but I would rather not incase any further damage is done to the engine contacted some garages they dont seem interested either0

If you got a lot of water in the fuel then there's a very good chance that a filter change will cure it. Water will sink to the bottom of the filter housing and then "wick" up the filter and keep mixing with the fresh fuel.
Filter out, empty the bowl, new filter and you'll probably be good to go.0 -
Thanks for your replys, I have ordered a new filter for tomorrow so hopefully that should sort it and be the end to the problem......hopefully:(0

Read the fault code(s) stored in the ECU?
Engine light on you should have codes.. Coil pack?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Why Tesco?? Out of interest we had similar problem with our vintage Silver Shadow last summer....on draining the tank there were a good few gallons of water in the fuel.....coincidentally, we (used to) usually refuel at Tescos....Debt-free...and staying that way...0
