The vendor's complaint about being out of pocket for the cost of the MOT is really quite ridiculous, as they'd have a job to sell it as easily without, or it would certainly be worth less without.
Charging the MOT cost to someone who is not buying the car, who made that decision to back out based on the false description, is even worse.
But at the moment it's £200, not £50.
I'd be talking to not only Trading Standards but possibly also the police.
If there is any reason to suspect that someone else has been given the same runaround on the same or another car, and paid for the same oh-we-only-just-realised MOT renewal, the police should certainly become involved as this might be fraud0 -
Thanks for your advice everyone. We are still awaiting the refund and have now given up hope of getting it back amicably. I have contacted citizen's advice and they have advised me to write a letter to the company but I have stalled at this point at as I'm not all the eloquent with letters and matters of law etc. It's on my to do list for the weekend.
fivetide, you are exactly right about the sellers attitude. One of the many reasons we decided to leave was that we realised that if we did have any problems in the future we didn't see us getting any assistance from the garage. If they couldn't be decent with us during the sale what hope did we have with aftersale service.
I'm not too sure about getting the police involved, in fact I wouldn't even know how to0 -
Draft something and post it up on here. You'll get many cooks chipping an ingredient! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
