Come on Nationwide, you are going to give me grey hairs!

Did full application through a broker, after a week we had a text/email to say "congrats mortgage offer is on its way to you"...then nothing! Waited a week for it to arrive and then poked the broker and he said he would call them up and chase it (last thurs)...still nothing! Does it usually take this long? Will the solicitor have been informed that we are good to go, or will they still be waiting I wonder. I think we are going to have to start chasing up ourselves. Really wanted to complete on 26th July too.

  • I know exactly where you are coming from! I've aged 10 years + already!

We previously had a mortgage with Nationwide but sold our house last year and have been renting. The ideal property came up in early May and when the local branch couldn't offer us an appointment until mid-June we decided to go through a broker so we had a person to chase as the call centre wasn't too reliable previously.

Here's our timeline (so far and with no chain had hoped to complete mid July)...

21 May offer finally accepted but vendors won't take property off market until letter of offer received as previously a sale fell through. We advised solicitor

    23 May NW confirm DIP

27 May full application submitted, fees paid & instructed re valuation

    12 June satisfactory valuation?

19 June advised by broker accepted

And now 1 July and still no hard copy valuation or letter of offer:(
No text or email updates received from NW, no completion in sight. That's 5 weeks later. We did have to get employers references but these went straight back early June.

Very disappointing but trying to stay positive. My late Mum always said whats for you won't go by you (but I'm impatient lol)... House still being marketed :(

    Good luck!!!

Brokers can download a copy of the offer from NFI Online. The paper copies do take a few days, but not that long.

Are these paper applications, by any chance? NewBuy, porting cases, anything on this list with a red x under NFI or MTE?

In our case it is all really simple and straightforward. A chain free purchase. The mortgage congrats email came after just 7 days. I didnt realise the broker could download a copy! He didnt say that at all. Weird.

Apart from of course us actually seeing it in black and white I don't really get it. Do they send a copy to the solicitor? Could that have already gone if so? We don't seem to be hearing anything and I gave notice today to the agents we rent from! They wanted notice on day we pay rent, first of the month and i am having a flap now! Could it be that the solicitor knows all about it and i am worried for nothing, or is it a case of "if we havent got it then they wont know"?
What is the procedure with the mortgage thing?
  • Thanks Kingstreet

Ours is straightforward, we have no chain, neither do vendors. Just seems to take NW an age lol. All done online, or over phone with broker. Only bits of paper was all the documents I took to first meeting, Id, statements, payslips etc etc

I see on the intermediaries web link they're not accepting broker applications at the minute so maybe they have had problems a while.

Hopefully all will be sorted soon:)

No. They aren't able to accept new broker registrations at the moment. That's nothing to do with a mortgage application, unless your broker needs to re-register with them for some reason.

Once issued, paper copies of offer go to borrower and solicitor, so should arrived with a day or two of each other.

As mentioned, brokers can download offer from "case documents" from NFI, same as they can for valuation/ fee payment receipt and copy of mortgage application.

No. The lender requests and receives only the mortgage report & valuation. The homebuyer's goes from the surveyor directly to you.

If the valuation was done 29th, it should be back and processed in 48 hours and the case offered if all the supporting documentation is back.

It finally arrived yesterday afternoon. :j I think the broker's call might have helped, or it was just 10 days or so after text intentionally...not sure. But our solicitor had a copy on the same day.
