Can anyone tell me if it is normal or legal for Virgin media to charge a £40 fee to cancel your contract with them even if you are out of the 12 month agreement ????
Thanks

Far more information is required.
Where you in arrears with payments, for example?
Are you certain you haven't changed your package with them within the last twelve months, as that would have entered you into a new minimum term?
I doubt there is any "legal" issue here..0 -
What do the Ts & Cs in your contract state?0

If you are out of contract they can't charge you however if you've received some discounts from them they can renew a further 12 months although they should tell you thisThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

They have no contract cancellation charge (and neither are you 'out of contract') if you have met their minimum term commitment, so have to give 30 days notice of cancellation.
We're you hoping to stop services dead with no notice period?0
