not on electoral roll and really want to buy..

Hi Guys,
I know that if your not on the electoral roll its near impossible to get credit never mind the size of a mortgage.
Heres my situation.
I moved down south 5 years ago for work. Since then i have either rented my own place, shared a house/flat or slept in my car (dont ask - moneysaving to the extreme)
At the moment i live in a shared house with the owner. Now I dont think she declares that im living there on the council tax and nor do i get any post delivered there.
I'm thinking about my next move as I want a place of my own and I really want to buy rather than rent.
My only reason for renting would so that i could get on the electoral roll for a year.
Does anyone know how i can avoid this 1 year wait and years worth of rent to apply for a mortgage now?
I have a 20k deposit, 40k a year job and no debt but the electoral roll feels like a weight around my neck

Ooops, thought this may be an angle to use but alas not.
Where is your Drivers License registered at (assuming you have one) as not just the credit score and electoral roll issue, but also identification could well be an issue..I am a Mortgage Broker

When I worked at a large lender, if a customer wasn't on the VR, we'd ask them why not
If the reason was acceptable, and they could confirm their current address by another acceptable means (such as bank statements or utility bills) then we'd generally proceed.
But if the reason wasn't acceptable and / or they couldn't confirm their address, then it was a no go.
I think you need to get your self on the voters roll (and I think it's a legal requirement to register) and get post sent to you at your address, so you can prepare to rent / buy a property.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Afraid so, yes.
You do need to get your administration straight before approaching a bank to lend and they are nervous at the moment anyway, without them not knowing where or what you have been up to.
You will not need a year to get this sorted, may also be worth tidying up your ID and approaching your existing bank as at least they have a relationship to work from and can see your income/expenditure etc. (depends who your existing lender is of course)I am a Mortgage Broker

okay so maybe a 6 month rental while i get all my admin in order and register on the roll?
Just to muddy the waters a bit further i get my wages paid into santander and then i bank transfer to hsbc 75% of them to HSBC. Then i use hsbc for day to day expenditure and running costs. So I guess both lenders cant really understand whats going on with me? For Santander it looks like the only outgoings is the online transfer the day after pay day and HSBC dont have my salary paid in yet i use them to withdraw money and pay for my direct debits.0 -
