ISPs WITHOUT a 12-month minimum contract

Options
I need a broadband provider for my new house but we're only on a 6-month (minimum) tenancy contract so I don't want to sign up to an ISP on a year-long contract in case we move again. Do any of the good ISPs do 6-month contracts or month-to-month? I know that F2S (who I'm currently with) used to, but don't seem to any more.

I'm looking for 8mb/s speed and 5gb bandwidth allowance (though more for either would be preferable, obviously!)

How about one of MSE Martins recommendations. http://www.newnet.co.uk/

Thanks - I have got that article open in another window already, just hadn't checked all the suggestions out yet :) Anyone here use newnet? I'll check them out on the ISP comparison/rating sites too.

I just used the availability checker on their website and it told me:
"Preliminary tests indicate that your postcode should be capable of supporting speeds of 6Mbps"

Am I wasting my money if I pay for an 8Mbps service if I'm only ever going to be able to get a maximum of 6Mbsp?

Yes, the advertised speeds are only 'Up to'

So should I look for ISPs offering a service of no more than 6Mbps?

Or should I get an 8Mbps service, as even though I'm incapable of getting above 6Mbps, I wouldn't anyway?

Just look for all ISP's offering services up to the speeds available on the line

Well, even though you subscribe for > 6 MB broadband, you still might not get that speed.

It also depends on how far you live away from your telephone exchange. If you live nearby, the speed will be as promised by ISP provider.

Also, it depends on which time of the day you access broadband.

I hope that answers you questions.

Have a look at ADSL24 for quality at reasonable prices. There reviews are great and my recent initial experience with asking questions resulted in refreshingly quick and direct responses.
