9 year old?
One of these for sure: http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-mobile-nokia-100-black/215-7201.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=215-7201
Nokia 100. No internet for them to run silly bills up on. Literally all it does is text and call.
Why on earth does a 9 year old need any more than this?
Getting them something internet enabled on an uncapped contract would be asking for trouble.0 -
9 year old....
This should do-

so yes we do require some internet and we only get one with limited connection anyway!0

Can vouch for the Fisher Price phone shown above - my 9 month old grandson has that model and not one bill yet, although he did manage to almost break my nose with the handpiece (flipping hard it is).0

We bought this phone a few months ago - Alcatel One Touch OT-983

I'm happy with it, and it would be fine for a 9 year old BUT it is Android 2.3 (android) so it won't do all games (no temple run!) and the camera and internal memory aren't great. Having said that, it's cheap and I'm impressed on how much you do get for your money!0 -
A 9 year old you say... This should do

Don't really recommend Galaxy Y. I find the screen too small for typing. I used it as back up phone and planing to sell it.
I just suggest you consider Huawei Y300
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/HUAWEI_Y300?colourCode=BLACK
The downside is it doesn't have much internal memory, you will need to get a micro-sd card0 -
9 year old. i was recommended the samsung galaxy y in tesco. any thoughts? thanks!
After buying our 7 year old 2 tablets and them both smashing after 2 weeks  we bought him a Huawei Ascend G300 (no sim card)
he has had it since christmas and loves it! bought him a screen saver and gell case and has been dropped many times and is still perfect. he just uses it as a mini tablet though.
Just been looking at this as well £69 on pay as you go.
