I wonder what "by a certain time" is? I would be a bit miffed if I arrived at midnight after a long journey only to find my room had been given away to someone else.0 -

I think they tell you in your confirmation email that if you anticipate arriving after a specified time to let them know what time you expect to be there as otherwise they will treat it as a cancellation on the day.0 -
A cautionary tale....I sold a Travelodge room on Ebay a few years ago. A few weeks later £150 was taken from by bank account by Travelodge. No letter, just money taken. I rang Travelodge and it was due to 'smoking' in the room. Of course the Ebay buyer who had used the room didn't want to know. Thanks to MSE and reading about Section 75 chargeback on my bank account Visa card I managed to get the money back as Travelodge hadn't followed their own procedure (at no point did they write to tell me they were taking £150) and they didn't contest my claim. This took a couple of months to sort out and certainly taught me never to list a Travelodge room I booked on Ebay. It's a risk not worth taking.0

I did this last year and luckily it went smoothly. I had a Savers room booking for a 3 night stay in Edinburgh on valentines weekend, I put it on ebay and got more than I paid for it. I emailed them the booking confirmation and they went as 'me'. The buyer was very pleased with the deal and left good feedback.
I didn't know about the risks at the time, had I known I would have probably just cut my losses
