My issues are regarding my creditcards with Barclaycard, I have a current account with Barclays, my salary is paid into Barclays so once I have considered my options I will be moving my salary, all direct debits, standing orders from this account to the new independant account in the future.

I also have a creditcard and a loan with Halifax. I have a current account with Halifax so I will also need to move all direct debits and standing orders from this account to the new independant account.

I will leave the direct debits for the loan and creditcard in the above different accounts and just personally deposit the required amount per months to each account to meet what ever agreement may be set up in the future.

This will provide me with an independant bank account where my salary can not be taken with out my consent.

I thank you all inadvance for your contributions.

Different people have differing levels of access; the point relevant to the OP is that only a totally seperate group would ensure no data is available.

RBS/NatWest, HSBC, Nationwide and Santander would work.

But I doubt whether many of them will be customer facing staff. As an IT person I had a degree of access to both RBS and NatWest data (much reduced in later years after SOx rules came in), but never spoke to a customer in 15 years.

It depends which part of the business, it was increasingly common and particularly in the Manufacturing division. I know when I had 3 RBS credit cards (Mint, RBS and Natwest) the same credit card call centre agent was able to deal with queries on all three cards (though in years gone by they used to say they couldnt)

    Hello everyone....

Not sure if I have started in the right place, but this seems appropriate as this is going to be a long road and I will need lots of assistance to get to where I need to be.... I hope in the future this will assist others in a simular situation.

I am currently in debt to the tune of about £23k. This is a bank loan and 3 creditcards. The only good news is I have never missed a payment on all four debts.

I work and my monthly income just covers everything by a few quid, one suprise bill from my car would tip me over the edge so I know I'm in a very dangerous situation. I have cut every direct debit I can, I do not drink alcohol, smoke, take drugs or eat any branded food. My life has no pleasures... I do the basics and just cover my bills. I can not imporove the income I receive as their are no jobs locally that could improve my salary.

My situation is this... I have met all minimum payments for 3 years and never defaulted. The reality is this, one big bill, I will have a word of issues to deal with.... what is really important is I need help to change this situation. I have rang National Debtline, they can not help, I have not missed a payment. They referred me to Money Advise, they suggested Payplan, Consolidation Loan (I applied a few months back, declined), contacting creditors looking to stop interest and lowering payments.

I believe my choices are either to battle on, which in reality is not an option as my future is financially limited, I have put off being able to have children given my financial situation, time is passing me by. So it appears I might have to consider defaulting in some capacity to lower my payments in order to be able to participate in life again....

Can anybody help or advise me where to go, start in order to begin addressing and helping myself.

I have just completed the StepChange Charity questionaire and the advice from them after filling everything out was a DMP. I await peoples instructions of what I ought to do/consider.

I did want to just post a link to the post, it is in 'Debt Free Wannabe' but it would not allow me to as a new user....

Befor I decide what route I wish to take to deal with my debts, having listened to peoples advice... I feel it is sensible to seperate my finances from my ongoing debts... especially if I may consider defaulting in the future... hence wanting to know what options I have for a bank to transfer too so that my current banks accounts with Barclays and Halifax will not be able to interfere with my salary or take allocated monies that were for direct debts etc...

RBS is nothing to do with Halifax. It's everything to do with Nat West.

They all share data through the credit reference agencies. Default on one and the others will be alerted. If only to the money-making possibilities.

If you haven't got overdrafts, you could be in the market for an account switching bonus. Or two.

There's £100 at First Direct, and deals on Nationwide FlexDirect and Santander 123 through the cashback sites.

They might think your income is a bit light in relation to your debts - but the evidence is that you're coping, and they've got no idea what other resources you might have in the way of savings accounts, partner etc, since they don't even ask.

The Santander has a fee, but cashback on the direct debits.

Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is nothing to do with Halifax.

Bank of Scotland (BoS) did merge with Halifax to form HBOS and subsequently merged with Lloyds TSB

Many mix up RBS and BoS

    Slightly inaccurate...
    • Bank of Scotland has never merged with Lloyds TSB.
    • Halifax was dissolved on the 17 September 2007 and is now just a brand name for Bank of Scotland.
