Missing P45

in Cutting tax
My previous employer is withholding my P45 from me, I have been asking for it for over a month now, & just keep getting fobbed off saying it's being sorted, in the post(twice apparently!) etc.
Is there anyway I can get a copy? I never received any wage slips (one of my reasons for leaving) but I was paid by cheque.
Also, my P45 from my employer before this one has gone missing, I gave all the copies to my last employer (didn't realise I was supposed to keep one) although I do have wage slips for this employer.
Do I need to speak to HMRC to get copies/ tax statement sort of thing for last year?
Thanks in advance..

HMRC won't be able to supply copies - only your employers can give this. Most won't give a copy but should give a Statement of Earnings. Of course I realise that doesn't help with an employer who is being difficult and not providing your P45.
Someone has posted on here about being able to get a tax summary from HMRC but it's not something I'm aware of so you would need to ask HMRC.0 -
Never received a pay slip! Paid by cheque, so do you know if you ever paid (officially) Tax & N.I? Sounds like your pay was never done officially and that is why you have no P45 forthcoming.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0

I've been told all the tax & NI has been taken off, but obviously I have no proof of this!
The main reason I left (was only there 6 weeks) was due to no contract or wage slips, even though I kept asking for them.
So will my other employer (who did provide me with a P45) be able to issue me with a statement of earnings if they choose to?
I'm still not sure what I should do about the withholding P45.. do report this to HMRC?0 -

If you are not given a P45 when you leave your job you should first ask your employer for it. If the employer does not supply it you should contact your local tax office. Revenue will contact the employer and obtain your P45 for you. If you have started a new job, Revenue will send you a new tax credit certificate so you will not have to pay emergency tax in your new job.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

I would report this to HMRC and let them chase it up. Meanwhile if you start a new job then complete a P46.0 -
Thank you for your replies.. Im now self-employed (already registered with tax office) so don't need it for an employer, just thought I may be able claim some tax back for last year..0

The employer who hasn't provided P45 - were you employed by them on 5 April 2013? If not, earnings there, as you will know, do not affect the tax paid last year. If employed by them but not paid until 6 April or later, it still doesn't affect last year's tax. If with them and paid by them by 5 April, they should have provided a P60 too.
The previous employer who has provided a P45 - did you leave them on or after 6 April 2013. If you did, by the end of May they should have provided you with a P60 covering the 2012-13 year.0 -
The employer that provided the P45, I left before 6th April (in Jan).
The employer who has not provided P45, I left in March. I haven't received a P60 from anyone though..
I went self-employed at the end of April this year.0 -
If you didn't have an employer at the end of the tax year, you would nt receive a p60. These are only given if you are actually employed at the time of tax year change.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

although your advice is sound, and applies to the UK. You have linked to a website for the republic of ireland.0
