    A factory restore was a bit OTT - like taking a 10lb hammer to crack a nut.

    This is usually caused by a browser extension (BHO in IE, Extension in Chrome & Firefox). It'll not be called TextEnhance, or anything like, but rather by the name of the partner software involved - and that could be one of many things.

    These install when you install other software (usually freeware) - It's a way of monetising the "free" download for the software developer. Watch out in the future for any other software bundled with the software you want, pay attention during the install process & uncheck/opt out of any "extras" offered during the installation, and read EULA's (End User License Agreement's) before installing (Yes, I know, who actually does..?).

    As you've factory restored the PC, ensure you not only update Windows, but also other programs too - particularly those with a browser plugin - Adobe Flash, Reader, Java RE etc...
