Hi all
I am looking at my contents insurance at the moment and realised I have various items which are valuable, but I'm not sure how valuable.
Where/how is the best way to get these items valued, how much should I expect to be charged; it's mainly for some personal jewlery and old photgraphic equipment
Any ideas??
Thanking you kindly!!

Hi Murtle
I'm assuming that with the jewellery you would take it to a jewellers to get it valued properly. As the for the photographic equipment, I'm assuming if it's modern, you look for items that are the same and what it would cost if you had to replace them. If it's antique equipment, again you'd have to go to a valuers and get it valued.

Just to add that it's always a good idea to have photographs (and prerably valuations) of valuable items. If you do need to make a claim, it makes things a lot easier when proving that you actually had the items - particularly in the absence of original purchase receipts.
Also beware that most contents policies will have a valuables limit- either a cash limit or a percentage of the contents sum insured. If your valuables exceed this limit, you'll need to contact your insurer to increase your cover.
If you want to insure the items for accidental loss or damage away from the home, you'll have to have additional personal belongings cover.0
