Success with Monarch Airlines!

On 30 August 2008, we were delayed coming back from Corfu (flight ZB1413 into Gatwick). We were informed of a technical problem after we had checked in our luggage (at 22:00). The entire family had to sleep on the terminal floor (not a good experience) and we did get transferred to a hotel by 09:00 the next morning and stayed there for breakfast (more swimming) and a packed lunch. The main irritation was the luggage had been checked in and was now airport side! Back to the airport in the afternoon and off home 15 hours later.
I completed the EU compensation form and sent it to Monarch and copied in CAA to all correspondence.I got a reply from Monarch requesting I complete their own version of the form so I played the game.
I was able to provide all relevant information plus some crucial extra bits; I was accused of being a bit "anal" at the time, but I took a photo of the terminal clock and the replacement aircraft's registration! I have today received a cheque for £1,370 for all four of us!
My advice is when you find yourself in a situation, take all relevant notes and as much information as possible; it will come back to serve you and haunt them!
Monarch were not obstructive and were very reasonable.
