Matalan- worlds lightest all airlines cabin bag

Has anyone used one of these as hand luggage on a Ryanair flight?
Do they fit in the measuring crate?

It actually states in the write-up that they are compliant with Ryanair, but when I measured myself the 20cm is closer to 21cm

I got a grey one from Argos at about £30, I'm sure it's the same bag, although it's by Sub Zero, but they seem to have changed name to IT Luggage (which this lime green one from Matalan is). Mine is fine on Ryanair. It's fairly soft on the front pockets etc, so would fit in the cabin baggage checker.

it's not the worlds lightest... I got one of these on ebay...

It's basically a fabric bag with a rigid plastic base with wheels, weighs just over 700g (which makes a difference, especially if flying hand luggage only, as Ryanair etc are sticklers for the bags not being overweight and charge a lot if they are!) and whilst it's not got a solid frame, I prefer that, as in the last one I had the frame seemed to take up a lot of the space!

As the body of the bag is soft, rather than rigid, it feels a bit less sturdy, but mine has been to Ireland and Greece with no problems, and it definitely fits the Ryanair luggage frames.

I thought it was worth a go as they are cheap enough, and I've been pleased with it so far.. it also folds down (the soft body of the bag can be folded down into the solid base) which means it takes up far less storage space when not in use!

EasyJet have reduced their baggage allowance so you'll need the lightest bag you can get.

    No they haven't.

They have reduce the size of hand luggage they guarantee will go in the cabin. If you have a bag larger than the new guaranteed limit on a busy flight it may have to go in the hold, at no extra cost.

There is no weight restriction though.

We bought two of these for our recent trip to France with Ryanair. Ebay 111050630596 No problems with size, good strong bags.
A few people were stopped at East Midlands and had to pay the £60 to put their bags into the hold. Coming back at La Rochelle the checks were more lax, just had to have one bag each but I saw several that were obviously too big but they got on OK.

Thanks for the replies. I have bought the Matalan case, it has a 10yr guarantee and I also have a 20% off voucher, so fingers crossed it fits ok for Ryanair! If it doesn't I will be straight back to Matalan for a refund. They state on the website it fits Ryanair, so if it doesn't I don't think it would be unreasonable for me to ask them to pay the charges!
I usually ask if I can check my case in for free when I fly with Easyjet, they have never said no. So I will just travel with the maximum size case.

I will let you know how I get on!

Incase anyone is interested. The case fitted into the Ryanair crate easily, I packed it level with the top, and was careful to not let any of the front pockets bulge, it slid in and out very easily.

I had one as shown by foreign correspondent and when going up a small kerb the wheels fell off. I have one of the Matalan ones now, they are so roomy.
