coloured wedding shoes

Options
Hello brides and grooms i wondered if anyone had any thoughts on wearing coloured shoes for your wedding, i'm wearing a tea length dress and am considering wearing shoes the same colour as my bridesmaids dresses (deep red) i don't know if i have the courage to do so, or stick to the usual ivory. I have seen some gorgeous irregular choice multi coloured shoes, they're and a bit mad but a real statement :o As my shoes will be on show so to speak i think it's important to make the right decision.

  • I am thinking about wearing coloured shoes for my wedding as ideally I'd like a shorter dress so feel like I might as well have shoes I'd like to show off! I have an amazing pair of Red or Dead dolly shoes with electric blue sequins that I might wear, or I may get some red Mary Jane type shoes. If it's something you feel comfortable with then I'd say go for it - it's your wedding after all!

Have you got your dress yet? If so would it be worth getting the shoes you like and trying them with your dress (either now or when you get it) to see if they look OK together?

Hi yes i have my dress and some ivory shoes which are nice but a bit samey if you know what i mean, i think it's just the veering from the traditional that's bothering me, i don't want to buy some expensive coloured shoes then decide it's not for me. My ivory ones were from ebay so it's not too much bother not to wear then they didn't cost an awful lot.

Perhaps it would be worth seeing if there's something that takes your fancy and which offers the chance for a refund if you don't like them ( i.e. most of the high street stores). That way, you could try them on at home with the dress and see how you feel. You could perhaps arrange it so that others - such as your bridesmaids - give their thoughts too.

Personally I love the idea of coloured shoes, particularly with the tea length dress and would advise you to go for it, but it's your day and you have to feel happy. Why not google some images of tea length dresses - there are lots of people who have gone down that route and have matched their dress with funky shoes. Perhaps that would offer some reassurance?

My daughter has a full length lace wedding dress, and will be wearing bright blue sequin high heeled shoes! She is a shoe girl so I am not surprised. :rotfl:

I think it's a great idea. My dress was full length silver colour but my shoes were cadbury purple, same colour as BM dress. I kept lifting the hem of my dress to show everybody on any occasion and did have our photographer lying on the ground at one point to get a pic of them :)

I had a tea length dress and finding the right shoes was the hardest thing to do. I would have loved some deep red shoes (a reddy burgundy colour) to match our wedding colours, but there was two things that stopped me.

    1) I wouldn't be holding/wearing something to tie them in to my outfit for the majority of the day. I would have looked fine when I was holding my flowers (which were the colour) but after that when I was literally just wearing the dress (a strapless number with no shrug), and not near anyone else in those colours I think coloured shoes would have looked odd...

    2) I adored my dress. It was my wow piece, and I wanted everyones attention to be on that rather than my shoes (which are my usual statement pieces).

In the end I went with some Rainbow Club shoes - and I actually fell in love with them by the day (they had incredible stilleto heels); to the point that they are now sat on my window cill in my office along side MrD's buttonhole as a piece of 3D art :)
