Car insurance on a BRITISH car being imported to the states

Guys,

In September 2014 we are shipping our own classic car to the states to drive Route 66.

Now Insurance........... I need insurance on the car to be able to drive it stateside. Has anyone taken their own car over?

And

I'm looking at buying another while over there so I'll need insurance sorted out on a USA car that I will be shipping back

No they dont know, nor does my other insurance company I use.

Oh my, Well I would be wary of info on here then if the ins companys can't/won't help. Maybe contact an ins company in the USA?

There can't be many people doing this but maybe you could contact some classic car clubs, particularly owners clubs for US makes of car.

I've seen UK cars being driven at events like the Gumball Rally, perhaps you could ask the organisers of that or other events if they could put you in touch with a few UK entrants to see how they organised their insurance.
