Hi All,
Just received my annual bonus and have saved most of it towards my moving fund, but I want to spend the part I'm allowing myself on a digital camera.
I've got a budget of about £240 to include a decent size memory card. I want something that will take good pictures, not be too heavy and is eaesy to use. However I wouldn't object to spending a bit less!
Any recommendations or anti-recommendations please?

Have a look at the Panasonic Lumix range, they use Leica optics - Leica being renowned for their cameras and lenses.0

I've got a Panasonic DMC-FX50. And I absolutely love it. I wasn't one for photography before but it's changed that. Proper optical zoom and the LCD screen on the back is huge for the size of camera which is quite compact. Don't really have much experience with digital cameras but I can't find anything to fault mine at all."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I would recommend getting two medium memory cards, rather than one mega-memory. If you have everything on one card and it gets lost/corrupted you've lost all your photos.
It's also very useful to carry your computer connector with you so that you can download into your email as you go.0 -
Guys, until he/she has decided on what camera, will be hard to look at mem cards/sticks!0

I was watching the gadget show and they were doing a section on comparing digital cameras and they said that after 6.6 Mega Pixels you eyes wont be able to tell the difference (between 6.6 & anything over) so there is no point getting anything about 6.6 mega pixels unless you are planning on blowing the picture up to a massive size as this is the only time you will be able to see any difference in the quality. I have a 5MP camera and it's really good. It's a Canon (discontinued model). I would recommend that you go to a camera shop if you can and try them out with indoor photos. Most of the cameras work very well in bright, outside light but can be iffy on inside shots. Also get as fast a card as you can. I used to have a Sony Cybershot which took totally blurred images inside.0

Thanks all for the helpful advice - will have a look round the shops tomorrow but will buy on-line if it looks cheaper. will post back once I've chosen, I have been tempted by the Sony and Canon, but only because I know the brands...
PS Fen - thanks for the helpful tip about 2 memory cards, hadn't thought of that but it's a really good point!0
