2000% charged by Lloyds for £1.53 for one day.

Yes it is real. Made a mistake on my credit card short paid them £1.53 by the due date. Now charged £24.00 late payment charge and over limit charge. Lloyds refused to refund the charges due to me being 1 day late with a payment in the previous 6 months Be really careful. Made official complaint they decided to refund me the cost of a 25 min phone call which according to Lloyds is £1.00 he rounded it up to a pound for me. Honestly after a very hard year with Lloyds after eing a customer of theirs for over 20 years would't touch them with barge pole. Funny how they call me when I pay 6k into my account. But I have to call them over this.

You underpaid by £1.53 and got a penalty of £24. You then got a £1.00 phone call refund. And you hate Lloyds.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why you are posting.

    I agree.

I don't think it's 'a' £24 penalty charge; it looks like two charges of £12 each - one for late payment and one for being over limit.

So in other words, you breached the T&Cs of the credit agreement (the one you signed up to). They charged you as per the same T&Cs.

Not sure how that makes them in the wrong?

By the way, the 20 years/£6k stuff is totally irrelevant.

It's not 2000% it's the cost of administration @ £12 each which has been deemed reasonable. You only have yourself to blame, no point whining about it, just stick to your promise to them to pay back what you borrowed on time.

When are banks going to stop applying the rules that the customer signed up to, and start babysitting them through all their financial affairs?

How on earth is a customer supposed to know when and how to make a payment, just because the bank has told them when and how to make a payment?

    Makes me so mad.

I agree, the bank should send you a letter (at no charge, they are making millions anyway) saying they missed your payment day and please make a payment as soon as possible. People will then get around to making a payment when they have time for it. If you can't afford the whole payment, no problem, any payment is better than nothing, and they'll waive the interest.

Or we can live in the real world:

They send you a letter at no charge, and request payment any time within the next 20 days, stating quite clearly that if you can't make a payment you should talk to them and you may incur charges. They'll even tell how you much the charges will be. Quite flexible in my opinion.

What I can't understand is why so many people insist on paying on the last day, and then complain and moan when the bank doesn't receive it in time, or decide to pay on day 21! Hello! 20 days is nearly 3 weeks! You couldn't find time to make a single payment in that amount of time?!

    2000% of £1.53 = £30.06.

    Late payment charge £12
    Over limit charge £12
    = £24

So you got charged £6 interest?, seems a little low considering the over limit charge.

So are you saying the statement was unclear and thats why you paid too little? IMO, Lloyds statements are normally quite clear on what you need to pay and when you need to pay it by.

a bit harsh on the chap, in my opinion

if i had been a Lloyds customer for that long i would certainly have tried to get them to waive the charges, even if they are the T&Cs. and £1.00 to cover a 25minute call is low....£10.00 is fairly standard ime

If you read his original post - this was not first time it happened in last 6 months.

I think he was very fortunate to get anything back let alone his £1 call charge.
