Just got back from bootfair an hour away and made £90! Hoorah.
Downside is that Landlady no longer wants to go with agency (with whom we placed £500 deposit) but wants to go with a different agency that are Indian and take 6 months up front.
Its clear that she wants to use another agency because they are cheaper, meanwhile we get the runaround. She now wants us to drive 20 miles away to this other agency. Its too late to get the money out of the bank today (she wants cash). there are still problems with the house (broken window - stuff in the shed - radiators need fixing - light fittings need doing etc).
We want this house, but feel like we are really being taken for a ride now....
Hi NME,
"It's progress Jim, but not as we know it"
It took us almost two months to get out rented property habitable; straight there after work and every dammed weekend.
It's going to be a struggle it always is, but it does sound as though you're making progress, albeit at a snails pace. I hope you're Dh is a handy man
.
I'm surev you'll feel more relaxed after a couple of drinks; you've got to do the deal NME or me and Bat will be inconsolable

Hello fellow skintos!
Deal is done. Dh went miles to new letting place. Landlady went on to say that we have to put 6 months down and she wants this that and the other.
Dh said no - you have messed us about by using the other agent then using this one as you were going to do all along. Basically you have conned the other agent. We are prepared to go along with this but you will get the standard 2 months in advance and 1 months deposit. She faffed about and said she had other tennants waiting, to which dh said - fine go for it, if you think you can get better tennants and we are not the tennants for you, then go for the others, but we still have to get our deposit back and we still cannot move in because there are still loads of things to be done, which we will be happy to do (all the diy) but thats the deal.
She went for it. Even the other agent said we were being more than fair.
We then went to the village and listened to a live band with the kids, met some friends and today I have a headache!
So thanks everyone...xxx
Now to work out how to move, sounds weird but will start a new thread!!

Hey NME,
What a difference a week makes. Congratulations to your Dh for his negotiating skills and congratulations to you both for "doing the deal".
We're not yet discharged and there have been all sorts of ups and downs getting as far as we have, but the one thing that truly haunted me all along was not being able to put a roof over our heads, and trying to shield the children from all the !!!!!! that was happening in our lives.
The rest of it is just the sh1te you have to face when you get things wrong, and it can get a little humiliating as times, if you let it. O.K, drinks on me this time.
Cheers,
