argos lying about discount!!

went to argos to buy a new stroller as my pram is too bulky, and now my baby is walking everywhere I don't need a big pram. been looking online for a week to compare. found what I thought was a good deal in argos. a mammas and pappas stroller on sale with 25% off. so from £59.99 down to £44.99. now its a decent stroller and a decent price. so I went too pick it up, and got a catalogue. only too find out the catalogue price is £49.99, so there is no 25% discount more like 10%.
I contacted argos as I thought it was very misleading making it out better than it is.
their answer: the online price is most up to date. and also that it was the previous catalogue price.
I don't care about previous catalogue price, surely the current one is where they should get their prices from.
once off sale is it going to be £59.99 or £49.99
any advice?

Really? That's a new one. Who'd have thunk? That's never happened before.0

Oops, just noticed that that is your first post. Welcome to the forum, etc, friendy love-in and agape and all. But, really? Sale prices are misleading!
(And are you a French cabaret performer? Otherwise how do you explain posting about a pram in the food and groceries section?)0 -
oops im such a noob, sorry for wrong thread.
just so annoyed that they happily rip people off! and make up a lame excuse.0 -
I'm sorry, welcome to the forum (again), don't worry. Yes, it is bleeding annoying the way shops lie through their proverbials and the consumer bodies are toothless to address the issue.
"Oooh, but we sold it for twenty-eight days in one Naafi in the Outer Hebrides at that price so it's entirely legitimate and legal!"0 -
I can see where you are coming from, but if its still going to cost you £44.99 does it really matter.
If it is the buggy you like why not just buy it.0 -
Argos are always playing yo-yo with their offers.
Often in their small print you could have bought it even cheaper at another time
It's the final price really, if you are happy with it, then that's all that matters!0 -
It's common practice for most big retailers to put prices up just before reducing them in a sale. They are talking about it on Watchdog all the time.
As a general rule Argos are only cheap when Items are reduced to clear, when they are being discontinued.0 -

Often they have no stock of the real bargains, although they have been slightly better in the recession.0 -
I can always tell what wine is going to be on sale soon in Tesco. If the price of a 7 or so quid bottle is bumped up to a tenner it will be "half price" next week for a fiver.0

It's what retailers call marketing and we consumers call being economical with the truth or downright BS.
Look at companies like DFS with their permanent sales and Sports Direct always selling Karrimor stuff for 70% off even though they own the brand name.
As other MSEers have said ignore the discount and concentrate on the selling price. If it's cheaper than elsewhere then you've got yourself a bargain.0
