Missold Nokia - can we claim?

A few months ago my daughter bought a Nokia Lumia on an O2 contract £100 plus for £27 a month. They told her it would be compatible with her Mac. It wasn't. It doesn't have many of the apps she wants. It has now stopped taking photos, and doesn't take incoming calls or texts. She has gone into the O2 shop several times to ask for a replacement phone (of a different make) or a refund but they say the return period has lapsed and all they will do is send it for repair and she's stuck with it. She's very upset :(. Is this fair? Can we appeal? Who to?!

    It was.

It it fair she's upset? no.

Is it fair she didn't totally research her purchase, and is now remorseful? Unfortunately, yes.

    Can we appeal?

    No.
    Who to?!

    No one, sorry.

not many phones are compatable with macs
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Thanks, Hammer_Slammer and D123 ... tough love, D123! ;) She's mainly upset about the fact that "It has now stopped taking photos, and doesn't take incoming calls or texts." But fair point about researching thoroughly re-the other stuff. Thanks for the syncing to Mac page.

You might have a service centre near you, she can do a walk in repair if there is.

As d123 has stated they are compatible with Macs. As for the issue with the phone what is preventing it from taking pictures? It's surely under warranty still so I would pursue this with O2. Could the issue not be fixed with a reset by going through settings > about > reset phone? (this would erase content on the phone as well though).

And if the real driver behind this is it's a Windows Phone, give it a chance.
The OS is in early stages but gaining momentum every week with new apps and such.
It is a great system, but many people think their iPhone is great (the hardware is rubbish. I mean, all that glass... in a phone? Yeah, that was a great idea).
Android is a winner at the moment but for actual use, Windows Phone beats them all in various reviews.

It is certainly compatible with Macs, but why she selected a Windows Phone when there is tighter integration with the iPhone? I had a Lumia for a year and disliked it, limited apps but it certainly worked.

She had no valid complaint, just buyers remorse. Do a factory reset and everything should return as normal - then sell it and get a better handset.

Windows Phones (and Android) are a lot cheaper than iPhones for comparable functionality. Something like the Lumia 620 is an utter steal.
