Can I get a refund from my florist 6 wks before the wedding?

Options
Hi (my first post so excuse my ignorance)....
Im getting married in August (10th), and I brought a package with a hotel. As part of the package I got £260 worth of flowers. When I went to the florist I wasn't impressed with what I saw but didn't think I could do anything. Then when I told her what I wanted she said oh thats £470 extra. I managed to haggle down to £400 (i always haggle) and I paid £50 deposit and the. we were given the rest for christmas so I paid in full December. But over the last few weeks some photos have appeared of her work (on fb) and I am worried about the quality....

I have asked for a refund and at first she refused!I didnt.want to hurt her feelings so I said were not having flowers. Then she offered the money for the table decor only... I then suggested £300 and for her to keep £100 as a sorry. Shes come back to me today and said no again! What do I do? The hotel are ok and will give us £260 if we want? Shall I just be honest about the quality?

Yes. It is your big day. The hotel should know what they are offering. Don't speak to the floor set again, speak to the hotel manager.

If you are really not happy and think the flowers really don't look good, then yes I would tell her. Are they fresh or artificial? What don't you like about them?

You should get copies of her pictures and pictures of the arrangements you were led to believe you would receive and tell them that they are not comparable. The florist will not have ordered yet so will not lose any money, and I would also mention that word of mouth is a very powerful thing, I detest bad florists! If you want to inbox me her fb name I can look at her work and if you tell me what you were expecting I can send you some info over to present to the hotel, which may help your argument with them.

It's to early to complain the florist hasn't even done the flowers yet so it's impossible to say whether they are any good or not, a picture of a different arrangement is not sufficient enough to cancel.

A contract has now been formed, the florist is not yet in breach of that contract so until they are there is no right to cancel.

Technically could cancel but would be responsible for losses incurred by the other party.

The photos arent anywhere near concrete enough imo as they could be faked by someone with a vendetta against her/a competitor, it could be that the photos were taken after the wedding or had been manhandled by guests/staff, could be its a different arrangement that she's not as good at, that an apprentice done for a discounted price (price is a factor when deciding satisfactory quality usually) or perhaps its arrangements she done years ago when she wasnt as skilled.

Unless you know the origin/credibility of the photos?

  • Thannks guys l... they are fresh flowers.

The photos I saw were before the wedding, in my wedding venue a few weeks ago. But, yes they werea different arrangement.

She did originally offer part refund? But now none??
If I have entered a contract I may have to take the hit money wise. But it annoys me that anything wedding=pay through the nose... Also I will not know until the day what I have and then its too late! If I no longer trust her to deliver then I think I should go elsewhere :)
Oh and I dont think she has a website/fb. Thanks Guys x x

Why dont you discuss your concerns with her first and see what she says/if she can offer up a viable explanation for the difference in quality? She may just try extra hard on your arrangements to try and counter the bad word of mouth (or she might not, some businesses really just dont care).

    Worth a try though :)

I don't understand what you're saying here. You seem to be claiming OP can only cancel once the florist has already breached the contract.

To cancel the contract, both sides need to agree. Failing that, the OP can breach the contract but is responsible for losses incurred. At this stage these will be minimal.

OP, just tell them you don't want their services and write off the £50. In contrast to the overall costs of the day that's probably minimal.

It's not £50 it's the full amount which was paid in december.
