This is probably not approapriate in your situation but I had a similar dilemma recently, my sister was after a print of a Henri Matisse - Snail painting. Only one I could find cost over £100, way too much for me. So I recreated it, it's modern art so wasn't too difficult, lots of pieces of torn up paper. I did later find one for £25 here https://www.popartuk.com, but i think my version was better!0

If I'm giving money (as I do to my godchildren) I try to add a little something that didn't cost as much as it should have done IYSWIM to confuse them ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

How about £25 towards the painting and a £10 boots voucher off pigsback, or a pair of £5 earrings, or a photo frame, etc. So she has something for the painting but also a seperate 'you' gift. You're still saving in a way as you're not stumping up £50 but she gets the pleasure of both.0

Give what you can afford. £25.00 sounds a lot of money to me. I am sure she will be very happy with that amount and a card from her sister. The idea of giving her 50 50 pences is good although not very practical. When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile0
