Feeling Ripped Off!!

It's just that the amount of discount appears excessive in relation to the whole holiday cost
I think the price the holiday is now is a realistic price rather than the discount being excessive, the price you paid is well OTT for a small apartment block in Greece.

So this company have probably dropped the price as August would now be in the lates period and they need to sell the holiday. They are more than likely taking a bit hit on the price whereas when you booked it, god forbid, they might actually have made some money.
Lesson is - never check the holiday price of your holiday after you book it.
If you thought the price was too high to start with then you shouldn't have paid it.:beer:0 -
It's worth checking if they offer any price guarantee, or just registering a complaint if not, as they might give you some vouchers or other freebies. Worth a try.
Someone was on here recently with a similar moan about EasyJet reducing their prices, and after being laughed as per usual, someone else pointed them at a price guarantee EasyJet offer in the form of vouchers to the value of the price difference!0 -

Just to set the record straight, that guy was laughed at because he threatened to report easyJet to the CAA and Watchdog, not because he was complaining about a price decrease. Nobody's laughing at the OP in this thread, although some of us disagree that what happened is a rip-off.0 -
Thanks, just wanted advice that's all folks!!

it's horrible when you know you could have got something cheaper but it is always a gamble with holidays it seems. You'll notice with all similar threads to this it's the same people coming out with the same comments - it gives them something to do and they can all feel very smug that they have never paid more than they needed to0

A tad uncalled for I think, and not entirely true.0 -
That does work out at about £650 pp self catering.
Imo thats way far to much. I know going through a travel agent or tour opp, thats maybe the going rate so you havent really paid too much, just probably about a grand more than I would expect to pay by booking flights/accom seperate
Normally for the Med, we go July and as a rule of thumb, 1 week max £300 pp, 2 weeks max £400. Often its cheaper.
Flights to Spain, flights are cheap, accom a bit dearer
Flights to Greece, flights are dearer, accom is cheaper, Cyprus excluded, july + Aug both are expensive there.0 -
I personally would be livid.
A few years back I bought a TV for £1299 from Currys and then a week later it was £899 and they refunded me the difference after I made a fuss.
Many holiday companies now offer a price guarantee in that if the price changes they refund the difference.
But unfortunately high street travel agents are a law unto themselves and the only way to describe them would be to call them sharks. The issue is that they are a non requirement and they know it.
I would write to the manager and copy Watchdog in the email, and though the company technically haven't ripped you off, it's very bad practice and morally unjust in this economic climate.
Aside from anything else, this is a MSE site and so I think you would be helping others if you named the travel company so that other consumers can see just what the travel agency industry is really like - For the minority who sadly, do not already know.
Best of luck.
It isn't the High street agent that has set the price for the holiday, it is the Tour operator.
They are now into late deals and perhaps there are lots of seats left to Greece and they need filling, so prices have been reduced. Booking early is always a gamble as you never know whats going to happen in the period of time before you go ie riots in Turkey, Tunisia, hurricanes or earthquakes in the carribean , these all affect the price.0 -
It's known as revenue optimisation........and I know who wrote their software
