This has never happened on any of the BNPL purchases I have made through my Very account (which is part of the same group, so I believe). This includes my last purchase of an LED television which was made just over a week ago. Balance only went up by the actual cost of the television, no potential interest in 12 months time was calculated in to the higher balance. It did however trigger one of their instant credit limit increases. Very strange.

same, unless the op is high risk?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Please disregard my previous post which I have now deleted as it was inaccurate.

My Very account only adds the item purchase price to my balance, no interest is added on at that point. A footnote is added to each statement stating how much interest will be added on if the purchases price is not paid off by that BNPL term, but will not be added until that period has finished.

My Littlewood account on the other hand, adds the purchase price and the interest that would be charged over that period of the BNPL term to my balance straight away. This is why the Littlewoods rep was correct as not all Shop Direct catalogues work the same.

Apologies to Chanz for doubting you on my previous post.

Think you should check, as this has never ever happend. The intrest is never taken off the available until the BNPL has finished

On very she would be wrong but on Littlewoods she is correct they reserve the whole amount.

It is not "interest free" its interest opt-out.
  • I have a Littlewoods account and my BNPL items including interest are 'off' my credit limit. Might be worth phoning them to enquire about an increase as they are always putting my limit up?

  • Im hoping someone can help me. I placed an order for 11 items using BNPL code with Littlewoods last year. When it came to the end of the BNPL period (august this year) i paid off 8 of the 11 items in full using littlewoods website, ticking off the items i wanted to pay for and paying the total off. After speaking to customer services i expected the 8 items to be cleared (ie no interest added) and the remaining 3 items to have interest added, but they simply put my payment towards my account balance and charged me interest on all items. Ive complained numerous times but they keep saying i need to pay the WHOLE order (ie all 11 items) in full or interest will be added. Can anyone help me as im fighting a losing battle here? Customer services agree with me over the phone but every time i put something to them in email i get a different answer :(

That's correct the order, the whole order is interest free for 12 months. You need to pay it all or interest for the whole period and amount will added.

But I rang customer services and they said the 8 items I paid for would be cleared with no interest added, and just the remaining items would be added to my balance with interest? How can they give out information like that if its not correct?

Well that seems a bit rubbish taking it off straight away considering its an interest free period especially as it cranks the price up so much.

They call it interest opt out not interest free
  • I had the exact same problem with both Littlewoods and very. I ended up buying from Fordaline.co.uk instead. Dont need an account and good customer service, maybe worth a try
