Going on holiday in Cornwall at the end of May. First holiday for years and we are working on a budget of about £20 for the week, so if anyone can help I'll be eternally grateful (as will my 2 year old!)

Cornwall is beautiful and has some great free places to visit, polperro, padstow, charlestown to name but a few. For attractions we normally buy the westerne gazette I think its called, there is another aswell I think its the cornish post, anyway, they normally have discount vouchers inside. I think it will be a challenge to do much on 20.00 but I wish you all the best.. If the weather is good there is nowhere better.....0

were ever you go in cornwall will be lovely dont need much money as beaches are lovely even on cold days wrap up warm kids love playing in sand.country walks are lovely to .they sould have booklets with vouchers in were you are staying or in local chippy and post offices.most places are a lot to get in but if you get a bogof or half price ticket for something you will be able to do something.
if you are near there holywell bay park is a nice place to go dont pay to get in and you pay for tickets as you go .got a nice soft play area for little ones in there .
i find cider farms are free to get into you will need to pick up leaflet for that one as i live here know so havnt been to one for a few years.normally they have animals for the kids and maybe a train ride for 50p mum or dad can go on aswell.normally they let you taste wine and ciders so that fun for mum and dad .
i hope this has helped you a bit i was coming to cornwall with four kids for a few years before we came to live here so we had a tight budget to .have a lovely time:j0 -
If you go into any service station or large supermarket in Cornwall they will have loads of leaflets for different attractions. Alot of these will have discount vouchers in them. Some are only located at supermarkets/petrol stations in the relevant areas but some are for the whole county.
We go in June this year and are hoping for the same gorgeous weather we had last year so we can spend most of our time on the beach again.
Not sure how you're going to manage on £20 a week though. :rotfl:0 -
Thank you for all of your replies (and PM's). It's really helped me start to look forward to my holiday rather than worry about it!!
P.S. Scrummymummy - what a great name!!0 -
I agree, Cornwall in good weather is fantastic. I used to like Padstow, until Rick Stien took over - even the locals apparently hate him for it. Dobwalls is Great for young kids. £20 won't go far in a week - the UK and Cornwall is Expensive!!, but give it a go - as people say look at the local papers for offers and take advantage in what's free - they don't charge for looking at the scenery although they will charge you to park if your travelling by car. I also find the natives very unfriendly - at least elsewhere they show some friendship towards your wallet!0

Talking of Cornwall what is the cheapest way to travel there? My brother moved to cornwall last year so at least i don't have to pay for accommadation
I have 3 kids and just myself. Is it cheaper by train or coach?

depends on time of year but national express are still doing fun fares 1-7 pounds single depending on area you have to be travellling from london though.
or they are doing ten pound singles any were on another offer.not sure how long they will carry that on for but train is very expensive cheapest quote my husband got from cornwall to london was 60 pounds return ok for one person but when there is a few of you it adds up:j0 -
train is better option for speed/ nice views/buffet/tables for kids games etc . Most trains do London to Plymouth in 3 hours. If you book in advance and ask for Super Advance Return (includes reserved seats) example fares London to St Ives adult £36.95 child £10.65 with a family railcard (see my motoring/public transport board post for details of how to get a free railcard) I have car but always travel down to Cornwall by train. Local newspapers usually have good vouchers for attractions. Local bus services quite good for major attractions depending on where you are staying.0

Hi Smudge32! My family live down in Cornwall - where specifically are you going?
They know all the quiet beaches, the best walks and the free places to go as they are big moneysavers!! so if you let me know nearest town to where you'll be staying could come up wiht some fairly specific tips!I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!
Money to raise for tuition fees: £3000
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on!!0 -
i'm going near to Launceston in two weeks any tips would be welcome, especially car hire!
