Can those who know what hey are talking about please tell me if DWP can insist I have medical in Spain? Have said I know I will have to pay expenses back to uk, but as they can't guarantee english speaking dr here I think it best for both parties if I can explain how psoriatic arthrits and combined depression affects my activities daily. Have emailed Liam Byrne as Shadow DWP Minister to try to get definitive answer. Has anyone ot there personal knowledge? Please, please don't respond if u have nothing positive to say....I just want some help and no more abuse please

You tend to have the medical where you live or the nearest assessment centre.

So yes I would say they can insist you have the medical in Spain. I would presume your GP and medical care is provided in Spain so would also make sense that a spanish Dr assess you.

Alternatively move back to the UK!

Yes I think it has to be in Spain. The DWP Dr spoke English (he was Scottish). Our own GP was Spanish and spoke no English. Where in Spain are you?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

i see, so because 5800 other people rip off the system, its ok? does that mean if 5800 people do anything, then i am justified in copying? great, wheres my rohypnol...

people who abandon their 'standard profile' to set up a new one kind of know they are gonna get a backlash....

Surely you would be better off having it in Spain. Being able to just jump on a plane and fly home for a medical doesn't make your disabilities sound that severe.

I don't get it, you think it is absolutely within your rights to be entitled to the same than if you lived in the UK, but enjoying a life in Spain, yet because it suits you better to have your medical in England, you expect to be given that choice. You can't pick and choose.

Can't post a link at the moment but if you google ESA abroad medicals you will find it.

It says that you can choose either to have it where you live or back in the UK but you would have to pay your own travel expenses.

The link is from 2011 - I can't find anything later. Of course the rules may have changed so you might want to contact DWP.

I should imagine that English speaking doctors are used. I suspect it is not an uncommon occurrence.

Think this has been discussed before with similar nasty remarks on not hearing what the OP wants to hear.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
