though the next thing you write suggests that it might.
so if somebody gets carers allowance for you, then you qualify for single room rate (without SDP)
and if somebody doesn't get carers allowance for you then you qualify for single room rate with SDP.
so in both cases you qualify for single bedroom rate, from what you've said.
so what did you mean when you said about DLA middle rate not qualifying for single room rate? (i.e. when you wrote
Did you actually mean that it will qualify you for 1 bed rate but won't necessarily qualify you for SDP? (that's a little different to what you wrote though).
If you are under 35 and get DLA Care Middle or High Rate - you qualify for 1 bedroom rate.
If someone gets Carers Allowance for you then you lose your Severe Disability Premium, you lose entitlement to the 1 bedroom rate and you only qualify for the SRR.
Your Council will check on the CIS system to see if anyone is claiming Carers Allowance for you even if it is only underlying entitlement - you are then in the same boat as any other single under 35 year old and won't qualify for the 1 bedroom rate. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
(in the case of somebody getting carers allowance for you), you say
What's the difference between 1 bedroom rate, and SRR?
SRR - rate for a room in a shared house.
1 bed rate - 1 bedroom self contained property rate. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Is anyone else completely confused by this thread?
OP, if you are moving into a one bed/studio flat and you are receiving middle or high rate DLA then you will be entitled to the one bed rate of your local housing allowance.
You do not apply for the Severe Disability Allowance. It is awarded to you because you are on the middle/high rate of DLA.0 -

Unless someone is receiving Carers Allowance to look after him - then he loses entitlement to the Severe Disablement Premium - and isn't entitled to the one bed rate and would only get the SRR.These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

If you want SDP then you do apply for SDP (Severe Disability Premium) , you get a form which asks if you're living alone, and if you have a carer. If you're not living alone, or you have a carer then you don't get SDP, they'll review the form and say no to you re SDP. I don't know if you can also get SDP without filling in a form, it's possible I suppose, but still only if you meet that criteria, of living alone and without a carer. I'm not 100% sure on that but I think you can see it outside of the context of LHA by asking for it at the job centre.
I'm not clear on whether or not you need SDP to be entitled to one bedroom rate. But a person on DLA middle rate, and without a carer may as well apply for(and get) SDP, and then one is ok either way.0 -

The Severe Disablement Premium is automatically awarded unless someone gets carers allowance to look after you.
If you don't qualify for the premium you don't get the 1 bedroom rate. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -

If you don't qualify for the premium you don't get the 1 bedroom rate.
There is a form for SDP, I think i've seen it.
Is the form always given when you sign up for LHA?0 -
Yes there is a form to receive it as part of your benefits from JobcentrePlus.
HB means you will be awarded the SDP in your assessment/allowance of Housing Benefit giving you entitlement to 1 bedroom rate if you meet the criteria.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -

The form is an IS10 and you request this from Jobcentre Plus.
The SDP is payable as part of a means-test benefit claim e.g. IJSA, IESA or IS after submitting an IS10 form - assuming you meet the qualifying criteria (no carer, live alone, MRc/HRC DLA).
If the benefit in payment is a contribution-based one e.g. CJSA, CESA or IB then the SDP cannot be paid until either IJSA, IESA or IS is claimed respectively.
The form is not automatically given to you when you claim HB under LHA rules.0
