Having bought a nice laptop from Dell a few weeks ago for well under £400, I've been asked by a good friend to find a good deal for him today. A hot favourite to meet his needs (after my having done a _lot_ of trawling) is the Dell Inspiron 2200, which according to Dell's main laptops page is "from £461 including VAT and delivery" -- but no matter how I adjust the spec the lowest I can get is £497.

What am I doing wrong?? Do I need one of these "e-value codes" or something? If anybody knows, PLEASE could they respond tonight, as Dell's current free delivery offer plus £30 discount on this system both run out tonight.

You are just dropping the warranty down to a 1 year one. To get the £461 price you need to drop the warranty down to 90 day collect and return (it's the bottom option where you choose the warranty)

HOW DID I MISS THAT? (Well, probably because Dell wanted me to, but thanks for being more on the ball than me redfox.)

I can now recommend to my friend a system within his budget (£500) with the minimum 512 RAM he needs and including antivirus. To quote what he's about to say to me on the telephone, "COOL AS MUCK!" (summat like that anyway)
