Can I open a mini ISA when I already have a maxi isa?

My husband and I both have Maxi ISA's with only Cash in them which have low-ish interest rates. Want to swap to a mini ISA to get a better rate. Whats the best way to do this? We have not contributed to them yet this tax year, but I'm not sure whether I can close them down or make a transfer?

As you Maxi is only cash and for a previous tax year you can just transfer it into a brand new 2005/2006 Cash ISA.
I recently did the same with an old First Direct Maxi into a Intelligent Finance ISA.
Should be no issues.
