I work in a call centre albeit not a cold caller. I am a customer care advisor for a very large retailer.

I think it is the whole talking to someone on the other end of the phone thing that the general public have issues with, rather than just the fact that they are being interrupted by a cold caller.

The abuse that myself and my colleagues receive on a daily basis from customers who have called us is horrendous.

If they weren't calling you no doubt you would be moaning about them being sat on the dole. Lay off them they are only trying to earn a living, they don't ask to be abused by people.

I am registered with TPS and the calls i have had since being registered which have been very few and far between. I have always asked where they are calling from, how they got my number and advise that i am registered with TPS and would appreciate it if they removed my number from the system. This has always been done.

The ones that wind me up are the witheld numbers that ring up and they are automated PPI numbers wish there was a way to block them

Well you are lucky not getting calls being registered with the TPS because they really don't work anymore, they used to stop calls but not since this recession started. People just call on a withheld number or from abroad, or what we get at work is make out they have called a wrong number - but by chance do you want upvc windows at home?

I co-run a business and quite frankly am fed up to the back teeth of bumph calls, we are registered with the TPS and l recently checked it hadn't lapsed because of the amount of calls we get. We,re not a big company l answer most calls and l do appreciate times are hard and people are trying to work but its beyond a joke sometimes.

The most recent scam is 'are you running windows XP because Microsoft are making it obsolete on 1st January so your computer won't work, we'll sell you a new computer!' Microsoft are not supporting or offering windows xp updates in the new year but to say computers running windows xp won't work is a scam.

Yes I am always polite because l am British but l can take a dozen of sales calls a day, then l come home to people knocking the door selling stuff, sometimes l think there a new series of Beadle's About and I'm the unwitting victim, you get the picture. :(

I don't know why I'm moaning here, l should answer that letter l got yesterday. Someone l didn't know l was related to has died and left £17,500,000 just waiting to be claimed!

    Happy moneysaving all.

Customers are choosing to call you, so bit of a difference there I think ;)

I was at my parents house today, and literally in the space of 5-10 minutes, they got 2 phone calls, one a recorded message, and one from a survey company.

Then later on, I got one on my mobile, saying they had got information that I'd been involved in a minor traffic accident. I was itching to tell them to !!!! off, but just hung up on them instead. People say, about these people at least having a job, having to support their family etc, well I say, that these people are sick  Imagine if they up someone who had just been in a really bad traffic accident, or even worse, lost a loved one this way.

When you get one of those 'Windows Support' calls try asking them which PC they are on about, it drives them nuts! I've got a work supplied laptop, OH has a desktop, both running Windows. They have never managed to tell me which one has the problem!:D
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

I had one of those on Friday. I let the woman ramble on about the errors and how the pc registered at this address was in danger from all the error messages. And I let her go for a while.

I asked if it was definitely at this address and she said yes, and I asked her a few more times, 'at THIS address?' And definitely a PC? Running windows?

I then told her I thought she was either mistaken or lying. At which point SHE flipped telling me I thought i knew everything and I'd be sorry when my PC was broken irreparably. Like a banshee. I did actually feel that she must be close to the edge, but I also feel if you have a job that relies on conning people then its hard to expect better.

It was then I told her we have NO PCs registered at this address right now. Not a single one.

Isn't it fun listening to them lose their rag, while you ask questions in a reasonable voice that deviate from their script? :rotfl: I managed to get put through to a supervisor, the last time they rang, he lost it as well. I invested in a TruCall unit, but I do miss winding them up.

I quite enjoy winding the PC-folk up.

Last one I told him that it wasn't actually my house and I'd just broken in to go through his wife's underwear and made a couple of comments about how sexy my bum looked in her panties.

Scammer boy hung up on me.

No, it really is the fact that we are being interrupted by a cold caller!!!

The TPS is a chocolate teapot as far as I am concerned. You are just lucky if you have experience otherwise.
