Car Hire excess rip offs

I use overseas car hire a lot, and have an annual excess policy worldwide covering up to £3,000 in damage any one claim. This costs £64 a year from excess4carhire.com. It paid for itself after two hires last year - the hire companies will cheerfully charge you around 11 euros a day for this type of cover so if you hire regularly it makes sense.... I was told about it by a friendly car hire agent in Cork some years ago... when it was around 5 euros a day cover...!! Bet he wished he hadn't mentioned it..

The latest rip-off at Faro airport is to charge for a full tank of petrol and bring it back empty.Seems reasonable until I was charged 110 Euros to fill up a compact car which can only take about 72 Euro's of petrol at the top price rate .The comment from Guerin/Enterprise was "you got the car cheap by pre-paying in UK so we have to make our money from you". My preference is to take the car back full but the foreign rental companies prefer the "pre-pay and return empty approach" and the UK rental brokers do not let you know the T&C's until you have booked.
