I am looking to get my first credit card and have NO IDEA where to start. I have a current account with Natwest and am thinking getting a credit card with them would make it easier for online banking purposes?
Does anyone have any tips or advice?
    :money:

Credit card makes a life easier to Online banking and marketing process. Step forward with that.

The credit limit you've been offered could be different to someone else who has the same card. The lender should have told you your credit limit before you received your card.

Do you have a link to cite this? It would be interested to know if definitely true.

It happened to me and a current work colleague is a former Bank of America employee. Although, I may be wrong on the details being sold on, it may have been Bank of America post out marketing material on behalf of Vanquis.

I am an employed 24-year-old on the electoral role with an overdraft I've never broken, rent I pay every month from my current account and numerous household and personal bills that are paid from my account every month.

I'm hoping to get a credit card purely to build up my credit rating in preparation for a mortgage in four/five years time...

I get the feeling the general consensus is to go with Natwest - with whom I currently bank?

I feel extremely naïve, but I am completely baffled by the concept of earning points etc with a credit card? My primary use of it will be to pay my travel costs with it every month, and then pay that off with my current account - thus creating some form of credit rating.

Don't be! Your intentions are sound and in addition to paying off your bill in full, you also get:

Points whenever you make card purchases (excluding those considered as cash advances) with the Natwest YourPoints World Mastercard CC which can be exchanged for certain shopping vouchers.
0% on purchases for the 1st 15 months from account opening
2500* welcome points, an annual member bonus of 2500 and double points on purchases in the 1st year.
*2000 points can be exchanged for a £10 (Boots, M&S, B&Q...) voucher. This is the equivalent of 0.5% cashback.

Try for the world card. If you flunk the application, ring them. As they're your own bank, they may refer the application and give you another, more suitable card. It's certainly worth trying.
    Oh, you wee bazza!

Earning loyalty points and having an interest free period on purchases are two things which make using a credit card more tempting than a debit card. You just need to make sure that you stay in control of your finances and avoid paying interest on your credit card balance which isn't a problem for a lot of people. However, give some people £2000 credit and they may see it as free money and use it without thinking about how they are going to pay it back.

it's a charge card...so perhaps you won't have been advised because there is "no pre-set spending limit"....they will take the full statement balance each month by DD.
