I am looking to get my first credit card and have NO IDEA where to start. I have a current account with Natwest and am thinking getting a credit card with them would make it easier for online banking purposes?
Does anyone have any tips or advice?

Have you had any form of credit so far? If you don't have much credit history, and has good record with Natwest, then I think your best bet is to talk with your bank. The other option is subprime credit cards for those with bad credit or no credit. As I don't know anything about your situation such as job, income, etc etc, this generic answer is all I can say at the moment.... Hope it helps...!0 -
I got my first one with my bank RBS, at the age of 20. I got a decent credit limit too so would definitely recommend that.
If you already have other history e.g. phone contracts or bills in your name, and you manage your card well, you will build a credit history quite quick - for me only 6-7 months later I was able to apply for a rewards card.
Big caveat though - do you earn enough to manage a credit card ?If not, my overall recommendation is to wait a while.

Own bank usually best bet as they have an idea of what you are like and how you conduct the account. SO this could be a good thing for you.
Assuming no bad history, on the electoral register, with a permanent income and comfortable commitments (in terms of income to spending, then shouldnt be much too worry about with your bank..0 -
Why not this one from Natwest that gives you points which you can exchange for gift vouchers and 0% interest for 15 months from opening? http://www.natwest.com/personal/credit-cards/g1/world.ashx0

some good advice already.
yes, your bank is a good start.
also, CapitalOne can be a decent card to get started with.
something that earns you some cashback/points, if you can get it.
and ALWAYS pay in full by Direct Debit0 -

Would not holding a bank account with an overdraft facility not give you credit history? The OP only mentions not having previously having a credit card but doesn't say either way about overdrafts, loans etc.
I would recommend against applying for an Amazon.co.uk credit card though as Bank of America seem to reject a lot of applications and sell personal details of people who've had rejected applications to Vanquis Bank.0 -

An overdraft alone doesn't account to much on its own (pun intended). I had one for years, with my own bank, and even they wouldn't give me a credit card. My only option seemed to be credit builders. My bank were more concerned with the fact that they couldn't credit score me than the fact I had well managed credit with them.I would recommend against applying for an Amazon.co.uk credit card though as Bank of America seem to reject a lot of applications and sell personal details of people who've had rejected applications to Vanquis Bank.
Do you have a link to cite this? It would be interested to know if definitely true.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -

The 3rd requirement is the only one I feel the OP is lacking, otherwise this card should be fairly easy to obtain.0
