Do you believe that interest rates in the Eurozone, US, Canada and other developed countries were lowered to prop up UK house values?

    I haven't said they were.

Why did they lower their rates? Was the key reason to prop up their own housing markets?

I'm trying to find out what you believe. How could I know that unless you tell me?

I am making very good profit on a house that I bought in 2008 (at a price agreed just before the crash), rent is £13,800 and the mortgage is £1,745 per annum.

Edit: capital value is slightly higher then when bought.

How much of a deposit/any other costs did you put down?

If the deposit is low, then that's a great return (any tips? :) ). If the deposit was large, though, then for true comparability you should also include the opportunity cost of the returns from that deposit, if otherwise employed, in making that statement.

Appreciate it's unlikely to turn that into a bad investment though. :)

He does seem to have gotten a bit defensive. I'm not trying to put anyone on the spot, I'm just trying to understand the logic of those people think that rates were lowered to prop up UK house prices, when rates were lowered all over the world due to the financial crisis.

What I am finding though on this particular forum is that I'm having cyclical discussions with the same people on the same topics. The result seems to end the same with someone leaving the discussion in a huff and then restarting it again in another thread as though the previous discussion has never taken place, with them pushing the same discredited arguments.

Does that happen to anyone else in here?

Stick around there's some good posters in here, but as you've found, some threads turn a bit 'groundhog day'

    Really? I mean....what a surprise!
  • Deleted that post as it didn't seem very friendly when I read it back to myself. I guess most discussions are cyclical especially when two sides are entrenched.
