What would you do if you were served mouldy bread in a cafe?
Just a winge really I suppose, but yesterday while our with my daughter and my husband we chose a lovely cafe with sunny courtyard in a local town, we had never been to it before.
The food looked fab when it arrived bit as I started to eat my veggie burger I noticed a 5mm ish mould spot, my daughter had the same hers was fine.
My husband went to complain and the manager came and took it away apologising.
Almost instantly she returned with my 1/2 eaten burger in some different bread.
When we came to pay she apologised again.
We had 2 veggie burgers £7.95 each, ham sandwich £5.95 and extra chips £1.50. We had 2 coffees unsure of the price.
It came to £29.55 and she deducted £2 I presume for the inconvenience. Coffee in our area is usually £2 to £2.50, it was ordinary flat white. Seems it was£3.10
I am sure we were overcharged too!
Not being the complaining type we left but have dwelled on this and now feel somewhat ripped off, the cafe sand staff were lovely otherwise.

Nothing? Used dipping oils to hide the mould ;)

You finished your meals, paid and left. Nothing you can do now really. You have no proof either.

    Personally I would...

    Not go there again.

    Mainly because of:

    > returned with my 1/2 eaten burger in some different bread.

Ick, should have given you a complete replacement, but it's a bit late for that now.

That is the only thing you can do really. A complaint really needs to be dealt with at the time.

As for the pricing, check first and leave if you don't want to pay that much.

I wouldn't go to the Ritz, then complain when I got the bill that McDonald's do a cup of tea for 99p.

I would have expected a fresh meal, certainly not the current meal transferred to a different bun. 50% off the cr*p meal seems reasonable, but if the meal and service was nice and rectified adequately (which in this case imo it was not) I wouldn't have pushed for this. Whilst you waited for you fresh meal, a free complimentary drink also seems appropriate.

Mould won't kill you, but certainly not appetizing to see! But i'm surprised they didn't offer a little bit more to be honest to keep you happy - after all it's not good business sense to have a customer leaving your establishment questioning the quality of the products. Or the health and safety in fact, as it may make some wonder what else they could be getting complacent with behind the scenes.

Sorry think you have misunderstood me, I wasn't complaining about the price, I don't think we were charged the correct price, I have now checked, as the bill worked out we were charged £3.10 for a plain cup of coffee, the menu price is £2.10 therefore we paid exactly what the meal cost.
After embarrassing ourselves having to explain the bread was mouldy I did not want to also question the bill!
We only have a card receipt so I have no bill so see what she did on the till I was just trying to mentally do it.

As I said in my first post we left and have no intention of returning, I just wondered what others would have done.

Thanks, thus is what I thought but I didn't want to make a scene, we just paid and left, it has just niggled us since as we feel there should have been some form of compensation.

Just make sure your friends know of the service you received. Always the best revenge imho.

It may do if the bread was rye.
