Sky v BT

Options
Hi folks first time poster so appologies if this has been discussed before.

I have the complete Sky package, minus the movies so that's phone, broadband unlimited and Sky Sports

I pay

£47.25 for Sky
£7.50 for Sky Broadband
£14.50 for Sky Talk

I am reasonably happy with that but since I got a new smart TV and moved my router downstairs to the main phone socket which I always understood to be best, I lose connection (not always) upstairs and always in the garden when I didn't used to. So it's got me thinking on whether I should switch to BT for the phone and broadband. I am not tied in with Sky, I've sort of just been with them for years and just accepted anything theyve done foolishly I know.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Its better to have your router plugged in your master socket to minimise the ADSL signal degradation due to internal wiring. However the trade off as you have discovered is a fall off in wireless range. The higher the aerial the better. It may be that there are conflicting wireless signals, download inSSIDer do a scan and if necessary change the channel.

£14.50 is line rental. You can pay 12 months for £119.40.

Why do you think BT would give you more range on your wifi.

If you are having connection problems at the back of the house use a pair of homeplugs or a wireless extender.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I am moving from BT to Sky......

With BT my line rental, total unlimited broadband and anytime talk is £47.50

With Sky its normally £27.50, though for the first 12mths the broadband is free so cost is now £19.50.

Is this change of router worth £240 a year?

Its a no brainer for me to swap.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

A proper comparison Where the OP has the same phone and broadband products for a new BT customer would be £16 month unlimited broadband Inc weekend calls , first 6 months free, and line rental £15.45 or the equivalent of £12 per month if paid for a year in advance, with £40 Sainsbury's voucher and BT Sport for free, Sky are probably a very good provider but non like for like comparisons don't really help the the OP

But isn't the TV with BT just basically freeview with on demand channels available?

Personally I think that the OP should compare all the package deals by all the providers. Then phone them up and play them off against each other to get the best deal. Complete package deals are often the best.

I used to have my TV with Sky, and my phones and BB with Virgin Media. But I managed to make huge savings by changing it all to VM.

I quite agree about checking out all providers and playing them off against each other to get the best deal
I didn't suggest BT vision or BT Youview to the OP, or ditching Sky TV, BT Sport can be had for free if you are a BT Broadband customer via your Sky box, and as the OP states he has Sky already all BT would do is upgrade his existing viewing card to enable BT Sport, there are other ways of watching to, even if the OP did ditch Sky TV BT Sport would still work along with most of the 'free to air' channels on Sky, that would save the OP £47.50 per month, but the post seems to me about phone and broadband rather than TV
